Beads of Courage

You might not know this about my family but my youngest spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital when he was younger.  Being a young child hospitals, doctors and therapists can be a scary time in life.  One thing that helped my son get through all those hard times was a non profit foundation called Beads of Courage.

The mission of Beads of Courage is to provide arts in medicine supportive care programs for children dealing with serious illness, their families and the health care providers who provide care for them.  The child will recieve beads spelling out their name and then each colored bead has a special meaning based on the treatment or therapy the child has received.  Beads of Courage  provides children with a little ray of sunshine through beautiful beads.

Why do they recieve beads?  Beads signify courage and strength and are a symbol simular to someone who is awarded a medal.  It helps the child make it through the hard times with their illness and recieve a tangible item to commemorate the milestones they have accomplished. I am thankful my son was able to participate in this program.  It brought him comfort, hope and joy during those difficult times.

Recently Beads of courage offered their clients a beautiful bowl with a $10 donation.  The bowl is beautifully handcrafted. I wasn't expecting it to be this large but it is certainly large enough to hold the long strand of beads my son has.

Beads of Courage is such an amazing non profit truly bringing joy to those who need it the most. There are many ways to get involved with Beads of Courage. Visit their website to find out how you can get involved.
