The Anaheim Hotel (review)

The Anaheim Hotel is located just a short walk from the main entrance of Disneyland Park.  They offer 306 rooms, Olympic sized pool and jacuzzi, meeting space, on site Pizza Press and a bar in the lobby.  I have stayed at this hotel on 3 separate trips in 2018.  I will be combining all 3 stays in this one review article.  I will be reviewing 3 different room options.

I received a media rate discount on my 1st stay without obligation to write this review. This is NOT a sponsored post. I paid for all my stays and this is my honest review of the Anaheim Hotel.

On all 3 of my visits the check in process is very easy, especially when you arrive later in the evening like we did on one of my stays. The front entrance and lobby has recently been remodeled and was always very clean. Customer service from the staff was A+++, always kind and friendly both in person, online and over the phone. The Pizza Press adjoining the hotel is such a great place to get food, however it can get very busy especially at the end of the evening after Disneyland closes. Not far walk away is Walgreen's where we went to get some milk and cereal to help save some money.

The hotel grounds are maintained and the pool looked very clean. They did have music playing kinda loud at the pool but I couldn’t hear it at all from my room which was not far from the pool.

The walk to the Disneyland park is not bad at all. I’d say depending on how fast or slow you walk (or how tired you are) it is about 5-10 minute walk from the hotel lobby to the security of Disneyland. The check out process is easy too, they attach your final bill to your door the morning of your checkout and as long as everything is correct you leave the keys on the table and leave when you are ready.

They offer a variety of discounts including AAA and even a discount for Disneyland Annual Pass holders. And getting Uber/Lyft is so easy, they pick up/drop off right at the hotel driveway.

Park View Room, 2nd floor (room 538)
Two queens

The room was very clean with two beds, an armchair, dresser with TV and mini fridge and a desk with a chair and bathroom small but clean. It also had a small balcony with two chairs. The ac worked great. The beds were comfortable & clean with plenty of pillows for us. One thing I was excited for is next to the bed on the night stand was a multiple port usb hub. This came in handy to charge our phones at the end of the day. Oh and the wifi signal was outstanding. My teen had no problem watching his YouTube videos and I had no problem uploading videos/pics to social media.

The floors were a little squeaky when you walked in the room but that is to be expected as this is an older hotel. There was a very small gap in the bottom of the door but that is pretty common in an older building; it was hardly noticeable and I wasn’t concerned. My only complaint about the room was the curtains were a very thin fabric. There was a very bright light outside to light up the walkway and it shined right in the room. Even in the morning at 6 or 7am the room was very bright with the curtains closed. After that first night I just put a pillow over my eyes or faced away from the sliding door and managed.

Two King Room, 2nd floor

I booked a standard room at a good rate directly with hotel website about a month before my stay. It was supposed to be just me but last minute I decided to bring my kids. When we arrived I asked if we could either get a roll away or switch to the standard two king room. Basically they are the same price so we opted for the two king room. We were also able to check in a bit early than regular check in time, I think it was 2pm.

We were at the other end of the building I stayed in on my 1st visit. No balance which is fine. This particular room the ac unit was built into the room with a thermostat on the wall and the air vent on the wall too. The ac worked perfectly.

The room was very spacious for two adults and a teenager to survive for 3 days. The beds wasn't that comfortable but it wasn't so bad either. It was just kinda worn out and ready for replacement. The bathroom was great and clean. The room was very clean. We did not request housekeeping during our stay as I normally do this. We saw housekeeping in the hallways and they were always pleasant. Actually all the staff were pleasant and nice.

We swam in the pool this trip and it is clean and comfortable temperature. We also ate once at the Pizza press which is our favorite.

The only problem I encountered was the hassle from the people at the little booth in the lobby between the gift shop and registration. The sign said free breakfast and the gentlemen there called us over twice. At first you don't know what you are getting but basically it is a sales pitch to get you to a timeshare presentation and it has nothing to do with the Anaheim hotel. They must be one of their other hotels. But I can tell you most people don't have time to listen to timeshare stuff during their vacation, especially if they don't know in advance. I did not like this at all!

(Apparently after this trip I have earned a reward for a free night. It sounds like it might be tricky to redeem so I will update later this fall if I am able to redeem it.)

Standard two queen room, ground floor
(FREE 1 night stay part of the Rewards Program)

This was my 3rd stay here. After staying so many days I earned a free night.

This stay wasn't that great. I arrived about 350pm, in my past stays I was able to check in much earlier than 4pm as a rewards guest but this time it was like no rooms were available. I mean even though it was a free night they knew I was coming I had to call to book the date more than a month in advance. I had to wait in the lobby till close to 430 for my room while other guests arrived and went to rooms right away. I kinda felt like they didn't care about me.

This time I stayed on the ground floor and they put me in the very back of the property which isn't that far but it's behind the pool. The room door was so difficult to open and close. I'm assuming the humidity made it that way. The room had newer carpet and beds with a huge flat screen TV. The room was decent except for the air conditioner! Omg the room never cooled off. The ac is all the way to the ground with the bed blocked it so there is no way air can circulate the room. Luckily I was alone so I slept right by the ac but if anyone else was there they would have been uncomfortable. It was humid and hot once you walked to the other bed.

I honestly don't think I will stay at this hotel anymore. Most of my stays have been pleasant but that last visit just left me feeling like I wasn't a valued customer. My best recommendation if you do decide to stay here you definitely don't want to stay in the standard back rooms because of the ac, the Park view rooms are the most updated. And certainly at this hotel I would not pay more than $115 a night, maybe $125 for the upgraded ones but really if it is priced higher than you are overpaying. Definitely look around at rates to get best deal and don't forget to take advantage of the discounts for AAA and Disneyland AP.
